Mapping Suffrage

First attempt at using CartoDB  and  TimelineJS to map the progress of women’s suffrage by country and year. Both were tools I was introduced to last year with the Digital Fabulists.

The time consuming part was building the data set, then checking that my sources were correct and changing the data . Then checking again.

The link below directs to the timeline I created using TimelineJS. This was more satisfying than CartoDB for communicating this type of information and I think it was more visually appealing.

One of the biggest challenges was finding interpreted writing about Polish suffragettes using desktop research late at night. So for now, no quotes from Zofia Nalkowksa but she was magnificent so stay tuned!

Still a few things to resolve;

  • How to acknowledge sources
  • How to add linked data (if possible?)
  • How to embed directly into a blog post
  • How to increase image size & change fonts etc.
